Lomond School, a respected educational institution in Scotland, has announced a pioneering move: starting from the autumn term of 2025, it will begin accepting tuition payments in Bitcoin — the world’s largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.

This bold step makes Lomond the first school in the United Kingdom to officially accept Bitcoin as a form of payment. But the school’s adoption of digital assets doesn’t stop at tuition. Lomond also plans to introduce an educational course focused on cryptocurrencies and digital finance.

While schools around the world are slowly exploring the integration of digital assets into their operations and curriculum, Lomond is taking the lead within the UK. The school stated that this initiative reflects its commitment to independent thinking and innovation.

From autumn 2025, parents will have the option to pay school fees in Bitcoin. According to the administration, the move was prompted by increasing interest in modern, borderless methods of financial transactions.

To ensure stability, Lomond will immediately convert received Bitcoin payments into British pounds (GBP) through partnerships with crypto platforms Musket and CoinCorner. However, the school has expressed plans to eventually hold a strategic Bitcoin reserve, anticipating community support in the near future.

Although Bitcoin is just one among many digital currencies, Lomond emphasized its unique qualities and has chosen to accept only Bitcoin at this time. Additionally, the school revealed its intent to offer staff the option of being paid in BTC in the future.

The curriculum will also expand to include Austrian economics and decentralized technologies. Beginning in August, students will be introduced to blockchain technology and the evolving role of Bitcoin in the future of money.
