Bitcoin’s extremely positive week continued yesterday, with the asset jumping above $77,000 to reach another all-time high before pulling back slightly.

However, some altcoins were the leaders of growth today, including Ethereum, which had not been able to boast of good results until this week.

BTC Peak

The start of the working week turned out to be rather disappointing for the main cryptocurrency, as it fell below $67,000 on Monday and stayed there for most of Tuesday. However, that seems a long time ago now, given what happened in the following days.

As soon as Donald Trump’s lead in the US presidential election began to grow on Wednesday morning, the price of BTC went up, soaring eight thousand to a new all-time high of over $75,000. The bulls did not stop, and Bitcoin soared to $77,000 on Thursday, when the US Federal Reserve announced another rate cut.

Friday was initially less volatile, as BTC held around $76,000, but it jumped again in the evening to $77,240, marking its latest peak. Although it has now retreated to $76,500, Bitcoin is still up 10% on a weekly basis and more than 25% over the past month.

Its market cap now stands at well over $1.5 trillion, making it the world’s ninth-largest financial asset. However, its dominance over altcoins has shrunk to 55.5%, down from a peak of 57%.

Alts are making a comeback

Bitcoin was the leading gainer midweek, but the tide has turned now, with many altcoins posting impressive gains. Ethereum is one of them, having woken up earlier this week. ETH is up more than 4% over the past day and 21% on a weekly basis. It is now trading above $3,000 for the first time in over three months.

Binance Coin, which was ousted from fourth-largest cryptocurrency by Solana earlier this week, has surged 6% to trade at $630. Avalanche, Chainlink, and NEAR Protocol are other notable leaders among larger-cap alts.

The total cryptocurrency market cap has grown by about $50 billion to reach $2.730 trillion.
