Canaan Launches Bitcoin Mining Device That Heats Homes

Bitcoin ASIC manufacturer Canaan has announced the launch of its latest products, the Avalon Mini 3 and Nano 3S, at CES 2025 in Las Vegas.

These Bitcoin mining devices are designed to make cryptocurrency mining easier for individuals while delivering unique dual-use functionality.

According to the official press release, the Avalon Mini 3 combines high-performance Bitcoin mining with home heating, delivering a 37.5 Th/s hash rate and a user-friendly app management interface.

Meanwhile, the Avalon Nano 3S is an upgraded version of the popular Nano 3, which boasts a 6 Th/s hash rate and is positioned as a beginner-friendly entry point into the world of Bitcoin mining.

The products’ key benefits include plug-and-play setup for ease of use and a focus on energy efficiency. The Avalon Mini 3 addresses environmental concerns by converting computing power into home heating, allowing users to offset their energy costs while minimizing waste.

Turning cryptocurrency mining rigs into home appliances is not a new concept. Back in 2017, Avi Eisenberg, who ran South Florida Distillers in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, came up with a heating system that used ASIC miners to mine cryptocurrency while speeding up the rum distillation process. In 2018, French startup Qarnot introduced the QC-1, a heater designed specifically for cryptocurrency mining.

More recently, companies like Heatbit and D-Central have entered the market with products that combine heating capabilities with cryptocurrency mining.
