Although Solana took the first place, the network significantly lags behind its theoretical potential. According to the documents, Solana can develop a maximum speed of 65,000 TPS. Thus, the chain reached only about 1.6% of its theoretical potential.

The research also showed that blockchains, not based on EVM, work relatively faster than their analogues. The first two sets in the top-10 lists are not related to EVM and are closely related to other non-EVM chains, such as TON and Near Protocol. Bitcoin is among the slowest chains that do not use EVM, with 11 TPS, and Thorchain fixed 2 TPS.

EVM sets also showed good results in this analysis: significant differences are visible in the lower part of the rating. BNB Smart Chain and Polygon became fast-acting EVM chains. Koingeko compared 17 large networks and came to the conclusion that networks that do not use EVM work almost four times faster than EVM networks.

Coingecko revealed the research methodology: a team of analysts selected the leading networks based on Total Value Locked as of May 15. The speed is determined with the use of TPS, which indicates the number of transactions per second, and is calculated with the use of public data.

It is noteworthy that Cardano was excluded from the investigation due to the absence of sufficient data.
